The University of Melbourne offers this fellowship scholarship to outstanding students from around the world who wish to pursue a Master’s or Doctoral degree in the university but are financially deprived of achieving this goal.
There are a limited number of fully funded Melbourne Research Scholarship (MRS) positions available for international students in the academic years 2023 and 2024. Currently, there are over 600 awards available for post-graduate students pursuing a doctorate or master’s degree in research.
This scholarship provides a total of $32,400 a year in perks, including a living stipend, tuition waiver, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership, and a relocation stipend.

Melbourne University Scholarship Value And Duration
- Two years of free tuition for those pursuing a Master’s by Research, and four years of free tuition for those pursuing a doctorate, are offered.
- For up to two years for students pursuing a Master’s by Research degree and up to 3.5 years for students pursuing a Doctorate, a living allowance of $34,400 per year pro rata (2023 full-time study rate) is provided.
- International students receive a $3,000 relocation stipend and students relocating from any Australian state or territory receive $2,000.
- If you’re an overseas student in need of a student visa to study in Australia, you can sign up for a single membership with Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).

Application Process
To be considered for the Graduate Research Scholarships, you must be a new student who has applied to a graduate research course before the application deadline for that course. After 10 business days of submitting your application for the course, you will receive an email informing you that a scholarship application has been added to your record.
If you’ve been accepted to a graduate research program but have delayed your enrollment to apply for financial aid, the deadline to complete your online application is October 31. After ten business days of submitting the online form, you will receive an email notifying you that a scholarship application has been added to your file.
To be considered for a scholarship the next academic year, current graduate students in research programs must submit an online application by October 31. Within ten business days of submitting the online form, you will receive confirmation that a scholarship application has been added to your file.
